Alex's First Haircut

Alex had his first haircut today. We were afraid to do it ourselves so we took him to a shop that specializes in kids. He did great - no crying, a little squirming. He mostly liked looking at himself in the mirror and smiling at the stylist. Mom and Dad think he looks great.

Asthma Recovery

Alex has been his usual happy and good-natured self this week. But, it has been a harder than normal week. Early in the week, he was wheezing quite a bit and had to work hard to breathe. His doctor diagnosed him with asthma and has been taking a couple of inhaled medicines (albuterol and pulmicort) through a nebulizer. The medicines helped quite a bit and his breathing is nearly back to normal. He is done with the albuterol Sunday and he will need to keep up with the pulmicort for another few weeks to prevent another asthma attack. The benefit of the inhaled medicines is that side effects are minimal.

He has been a real trooper through this. Each time he takes the medicine, he needs to wear an inhaler mask for about 10 minutes. Most of this week, he had to take 5 doses a day so it was hard to sit still with Dad or Mom holding him down for such a long time. In this picture, Mom and Dad got Alex up out of bed late at night for some medicine. He is trying to sleep through it.
In better news, Alex had a great weekend practicing standing and talking. He added n sounds like "na na na" to his vocabulary. Mom got him a toy he can play with while standing that may be his new favorite toy -- picture below.

Another Sick Day

Alex is having trouble with his breathing again and had to go home early. He is wheezing really badly and doesn't sleep or eat well. The doctor has put him on some medication that requires using the nebulizer mask. Alex would rather not have the mask on his face.

Other than that he is his usually smiley self and has spent lots of time practicing his new consonants.
At the doctor today, he weighed 19 lb 15 oz. A few more cheerios and he's 20 lbs.

Mamamamamamama

Alex had a fun weekend. He discovered that he really likes gardenburgers. And he learned to say mamamamamama and bababababababa. And he got to see the snow again. Alex is also excited to have Uncle John and Aunt Ann in Seattle. He has had dinner with them twice in the last week.

Night Owl

Alex may be a bit of a night owl. He frequently gets a second wind at bedtime and is not interested in going to bed. Here's a video from this evening.

Rolling Master

Alex has got rolling down. He can travel across the room and sort of steer. He is also an expert at the piano. Alex had a fun week except that he was sick the first few days. He enjoyed quality time with Mom, Dad, and Grandma F since he couldn't go to school. Alex is looking forward to this evening when he'll hang out with Uncle John and Aunt Ann.

Elmo Visits Alex

Alex did a lot of rolling around today. He rolls wherever he wants to go -- at least over a short distance. It is hard to steer when you roll so it can be frustrating. He likes to practice crawling at least for a little bit each day too.

Tickle Me Elmo was on clearance at the toystore and, knowing that Alex is such a big fan of Elmo's, Dad could not resist . Elmo came by to visit Alex this afternoon. Alex was glad to finally meet him.

Working on Crawling

Alex has had a good week at school so far. He gets to eat almost all the big kid foods now even though he does not have teeth. He had cornbread today and loved it. Grandma Felton visits him pretty regularly at school and he is always glad to see her.

In the evenings, he has been going to the local playground with Mom and Dad to play. He likes the slide especially. Now that Alex is good at rolling, he is working on both his crawling and walking. With some help, he can walk on two feet across a room. Here is a short video of today's crawling work.

After Alex rolled and got the train, the cordless phone came along. Alex loves to play with and talk on the phone. It was frustrating to be out of reach again.
