Spring and Exploravision!

As the weather gets better, we've been doing more bike rides, soccer games, smelling the flowers, and chasing the bunnies. Julia also won a prestigious science competition called Exploravision. She and Jacob Park did a project on innovations in water filtration. In a normal year, they would have gotten a free trip to DC to meet Bill Nye the Science Guy but this year it was on zoom. Way to go, Julia! Mom and Alex spent the first day of spring break at Crystal on a blue bell ski day. It was magnificent. The rest of spring break, we did all of our doctor/dentist/optometrist/car/etc appointments, Julia had a soccer tournament where they qualified for the semi-finals, and Mom bought a new car (Toyota RAV-4 Hybrid XSE). Julia also took an online baking course led by Christina Tosi where she learned about the innovation process and did units on cookies, pies, and cakes. Yum. Mom finished 5-0 in 40+ 5.0 tennis league (1 singles, 4 doubles) and we think we'll go to Sectionals. John and Joanna got the first Moderna COVID vaccine shot 4/17 and are scheduled for the 2nd 5/17!

Palm Desert 2021

Mom and 6 friends (Susie, Kris, Allison, Kathryn, Beth, and Blakeley) headed to Palm Desert for a much needed break from the rain. It was weird to travel, but we were careful with masks and got tested for COVID and nobody got sick. We stayed at a cool (but dingy) party house with pool, hot tub, pool basketball, ping pong, corn hole, BBQ, and nice bar. We played tennis twice, including a Live Ball session at La Quinta, plus 1 round of pickleball, 2 hikes, and lots of hanging out around the pool. I also got to see my mom play tennis at Deep Canyon. It was a beautiful long weekend! Can't wait to do it again.

Hanging Out

Winter and early spring continued to be quiet given the pandemic. Alex and Julia went to school every other week for 4 days per week with no outbreaks. Alex got another 2nd place for individual speaker score at his debate tournament. Julia's soccer season started up and both kids play tennis on Sundays. Beyond that, we stay close to home - walks with Maeby, cooking, lounging. We did have a nice snow storm for mid-winter break. Maeby loves frolicking in the snow!
