June 1 -- Took a Peek at the World

Alex is making amazing progress.

New developments:

-- Alex breathed room air all day with no extra respiration support (e.g., CPAP). He is still working a little bit to get enough air, but this is a big step.

-- He is done with the light therapy to prevent jaundice, at least for now. There is a chance he will need another round.

-- He spent more time with Mom and Dad. In the picture on the right, he is expressing a few things to Mom.

-- His milk volume continues to go up, but it is still pretty small. Preemies need to be slowly introduced to milk. The tube going into his nose is actually his new feeding tube. He was pretty unhappy getting the tube up his nose.

-- He took a few peeks out at the world. His eyelids and eyes are still a little puffy (not sure why), but he took a few peeks at his parents and nurses during the day. His right eye in the picture is just open.

-- The nurses mentioned a few times "he won't be here in NICU much longer". But, we still don't know have a projected graduation date to the big kids' nursery. He is doing great, though.

-- Thanks to everyone for the incredible support we are getting!
