Princeton and NYC

We headed back to Princeton for Joanna's 20th college reunions.  We hung out with some of our old friends - Karin W, Sandra S, Kristin L - and walked around the campus that has expanded dramatically over the years.  John's old lab is still there and doesn't appear to have changed at all.  Prior to the reunion, we spent 1.5 days in NYC, walking everywhere to see the sites.  Our favorites were the Museum of Natural History and One World Trade and Central Park.  We also saw Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, Little Italy, Times Square, our old apartment, and the subway.  Neither kid is too interested in moving to NYC but it was a great experience.

Swim team has started

Only Julia is participating this year, but she's off to a great start!  She's already in the top heat for U8 in most events.

Alex turns 10!

Alex had a great birthday.  The big 1-0.  His pre-birthday was a hamburger cake Julia made for him when he came home from Islandwood.  His real birthday was a celebration at home with some great presents from the grandparents and a double layer cake Julia made.  His birthday party was at Roughhouse Sports featuring dodge ball, obstacle course, and soccer all under a black light.

Spring performances and Julia's art award

Alex and Julia have been busy wrapping up the school year.  Alex performed in the 4th grade play.  It was a musical about heading west and he had two lines as a sodbuster.  Julia performed in the 1st grade play about fractured fairy tales.  These were puppet shows written, performed, and set designed by the 1st graders.  Julia's fairy tale was a take on 3 Billygoats Gruff except it was about dogs and a falcon.  She also participated in the year-end choir performance (she loves choir!).  Both kids shared their art at the spring art night and participated in field day and Alex went to Islandwood.

Julia recently won an bookmark art contest put on by University Book Store.  She put so much time into her submission (with no help) and was rewarded with a ceremony, goody bag of art supplies, printed copies of her bookmark, and a poster with the winning designs printed.  Way to go Julia!
