June 7 -- Feeding Progress

Today's updates:

-- Yesterday Alex breast-fed for about 20 seconds. Today he went about 10 really good minutes!

-- He was the most alert and awake we have ever seen him tonight. He was really curious and looking around at the world.

-- His weight is 5 lbs., 2 oz.

-- His IV line is not yet removed from his arm, but the IV is plugged. He is no longer connected to anything but his monitors. His feeding tube was switched to his left nostril to his right -- not much fun for him.

Here is a video of Alex looking around and squirming. Double-click to play. Some intranets block video feeds from YouTube.

John and Joanna, it is so great that you are posting these updates, pictures and videos. I almost feel like I am there. I have sent the link to some of my friends at work. They have had children, some early, and are aware of the stress you must be going through. Many have commented that they wish they could have documented their child the way that you are doing. They, and we, are amazed at how you have been able to keep all of us informed and entertained(you can have a second career as a writer)as you go through what must be a very stressful time.
Thanks again
