Steady rest and growth, June 2

June 2. Alex had a day of steady rest and growth. Key updates:

-- He drank 150 ml of milk, a new high. He did not have problems digesting. He gained 2 oz. since yesterday and is back up to 4 lbs., 10 oz.

-- He slept nearly all day with minimal fussing and no breathing problems. He did nose-breathing much of the day.

-- He gave Mom and Dad some quality attention. Mom did some "kangaroo care" with Alex. This is skin to skin contact. He seemed to love it. See the pictures of him falling asleep as Mom held him.

-- He wore his first clothing beyond a diaper. The NICU gave him a one-piece coat that looks like an outfit for taekwondo

-- At morning rounds, the doctors described Alex as a "model citizen" of the NICU. They noted that he is probably not going to be in the NICU much longer. At evening rounds, the doctors simply noted "no problems at all". He will hopefully be moved to a different nursery soon.

-- This evening, he was showing much more in facial expressions and he was opening his eyes wide to look around. Click the link below to play a video of his expressions, yawn, and eye opening as Dad held him. This is a larger file, so it may take a little while before it starts. Double click the play icon on the video to start.

Another video is below. This one will probably only interest Alex's hardcore fans (i.e., grandparents). The video is of his daily weigh-in. Also, if anyone knows of a better way to host video than YouTube, please let John or Joanna know.
